This is the fourth book in our “How To” series where our aim is to bring a lot of detailed information about painting and general modelling techniques for all modellers. The books have high quality photos and detailed texts, enabling readers to easily follow the progress of assembly and painting methods and help adopt new modelling techniques and different approaches. This issue has 70 pages, instead of the usual 68, with 160 pictures and 93 colour chips. We’re covering in detail how to Paint and Weather a WWII “Russian” Panzer IV tank in 1/35 scale. The well-known artist Radek Pituch offers a detailed presentation of the Colour Modulation technique and the weathering sequence with 60 step-by-step pictures in large format, so the reader can see all the painting and weathering details and all the paints and materials used. A brief historical data and some review details about the Dragon Models kit are also included. Radek’s aim was to reveal all his secrets for the painting (colour Modulation) and weathering procedure and so the update and upgrade of the tank was kept to a minimum, as the Dragon kit is a very good 1/35 scale model. For the painting, chipping and weathering the artist used Tamiya acrylics, Vallejo Model Color and Panzer Aces, Pactra and Model Master varnishes and Winsor & Newton Winton Series Oils. Also, Royal Talens Amsterdam retarder for keeping the paint for the chipping wet for longer as Vallejo are water-based acrylics. For the mud effect Radek used Vallejo & Mig Pigments. The next article is for a “German” Panzer IV Ausf. E Tauchpanzer in Panzer Grey camouflage by Panagiotis Giatzoglou, which covers seven pages and includes 11 large format photos, so the reader can see all the tiny details. The author has written a very detail text so the reader can easily follow his painting and weathering methods, even if we are missing the Step-By-Step photos… The next seven pages are dedicated to Relevant Acrylic Colour Sets for WWII Russian and German Tanks - Contrast and Desaturation sets - Rain and Dust Liquid Pigments for Rain Marks, Dust, Earth and General Weathering and Liquid Pigments Details Emphasizer. The 12 last pages present some decals and accessories that can be found to depict a realistic and unique Panzer IV Ausf E tank in 1/35 scale. A very detailed text has added for explaining the types of ammunition and the German Ammo cartridges with detailed instructions for marking and painting! |
