Mr Black Scale Modelling Manual Volume 14 - Painting & Weathering a WWII American Tank

This is the 14th Manual in our ‘Scale Modelling’ series where our aim is to bring a lot of detailed information about painting and general modelling techniques for all modellers. The books have high quality photos and detailed texts, enabling readers to easily follow the progress of assembly and painting methods and help adopt new modelling techniques and different approaches. This issue has 32 pages, instead of the usual 24, with 75 pictures and 34 colour chips. We’re covering in detail how to Paint and Weather a WWII American tank in 1/35 scale. The well known artist Radek Pituch offers a detailed presentation of the paining and weathering sequence with 60 Step-by-Step pictures in large format so the reader can see all the painting and weathering details and all the paints and materials used. A brief historical data and some review details about the Tamiya kit are also included. Radek replaced the bow machine gun with a brass one from Armorscale and Dragon tracks, using the ones with the extenders. He also reworked the casting surfaces using Tamiya modelling putty to give a rougher texture. His aim was to reveal all his secrets for the painting and weathering procedure and so the update and upgrade of the tank was kept to a minimum, as the Tamiya kit is a generally acceptable 1/35 scale model. For the painting, chipping and weathering the artist used Tamiya acrylics, Vallejo Model Color and Panzer Aces, Pactra and Model Master varnishes and Winsor & Newton Winton Series Oils. Also, Royal Talens Amsterdam retarder for keeping the paint for the chipping wet for longer as Vallejo are water-based acrylics. For the mud effect Radek used Vallejo Pigments, static grass, plaster, retarder, Vallejo Still Water and acrylic resin.
