Life at sea can be risky and dangerous. Working conditions could range from damp and cold to hot and sweltering – the work itself from challenging and complicated to mundane and monotonous. The military sailor – like those aboard this WWII U.S. Navy destroyer – would face all of those circumstances and live under the constant threat of enemy fire. Still, many a lad leapt at the opportunity to test his mettle and “see the world.”
