With this Solution Box, you will be able to apply the most common colors and effects to early WWII U.S. Naval aircraft. The Pacific theatre of the Second World War is where carrier-based aviation, both Japanese and American, played the most significant role. From Pearl Harbor to the end of the war, battles involving U.S. and Japanese naval aircraft were relentless. In late December 1940, the U.S. Navy ordered all carrier-based aircraft to be painted entirely in Light Grey. Subsequently, in August 1941, it was decided that the upper surfaces of aircraft belonging to the Pacific Fleet’s Battle Force should be painted in Blue-Grey, while the lower surfaces would retain the previous Light Grey color. Over the following months, it was gradually mandated that more aircraft be painted in this scheme. By February 1942, it was formally ordered that all U.S. Navy aircraft, both carrier-based and land-based, were to be painted in the Blue-Grey and Light Grey scheme. This initial camouflage scheme remained in use until January 1943, when a new tricolor camouflage scheme was introduced for carrier-based aircraft. This consisted of Sea Blue for the upper surfaces, Intermediate Blue for the midsection, and Insignia White for the undersides. In this SOLUTION BOX, you will not only find the necessary colors, varnishes and weathering products to paint any U.S. Navy aircraft with early Second World War camouflage, including the iconic F4U Corsair, F4F Wildcat, TBD-1 Devastator, TBF/TBM Avenger, SBD Dauntless, and many others; it also includes the valuable resource Solution Book: How to Paint EARLY WWII U.S. NAVY AIRCRAFT.
