Each week the MTSC staff will pick out their favorite figures.

February 25-March 3, 2008

This is a American Civil War 7cm composition figure circa 1950s/60s from Nardi of Italy. Nardi is famous for their Nativity figures and sets but they also did an extensive line of composition Western and other figures before they switched to plastic production in the 1960s. Rare in the USA these figures are found mostly in Italy and a few European countries leading me to believe that they were not exported very much.

As those loveable Europeans tend to do when interpreting our Civil War (an officer with a sword and flag?..not likely in real life but it looks real cool) this guy looks like he could be either Union or Confederate. Or both! His flag says he is a Union guy but I’m sure this very same figure exists as a Confederate Flag Bearer too although I don’t have one. By the way if you have any Nardi composition Civil War figures drop me a line as I am always looking for them to add to my collection.
