Anyone who has ever needed a tow knows the importance of a good set of tow chains. For armor modelers, it is almost a given that every nations trucks, half tracks, or armored cars should have a set of tow chain draped over or stowed somewhere. Our chains are 12 links per inch which makes them approximatley 1 1/4 inch tow chains in 1/35th scale.
Tow Chains were/are not very high on anyones maintenance list, they rarely got/get cleaned or oiled so they usually rusted to a rusty brown color which we have achieved by chemically "rusting out" out Tow Chains. Sometimes crews would paint the tow hooks red to make it easier to quickly locate the ends. You may wish to paint the miniature tow hooks a medium red to represent this practice. The hooks can be removed from either or both ends if desired.
Hudson & Allen "Heavy Tow Chains" are 16" long (not including the hooks) which represents a chain which is approximately 42 feet long in 1/35th scale. This allows you to cut the chains in half and end up with two "Heavy Tow Chains" 21 feet long if you desire.
