Identifying Composition Toy Soldiers:
Porro-Rovello (Italy)

It is assumed that Porro-Revllo started 7cm composition toy soldier production immediately after World War II. In its early years the company extensively pirated figures from other manufactures such as Landi, Confalonieri/Chialu and Hausser/Elastolin. They Italian Army was the largest line produced but they also issued Western, American Civil War, and Korean War figures. Porro-Rovello were priced much less than its competitors and was considered a toy soldier for the masses. Somewhat crude in appearance these figures none the less hold that inexplainable Italian charm. The company disappeared in the beginning of 1960's.
