Most plastic figures are 1/32 or 1/35 scale, the scales common to model armored vehicle kits, and are usually manufactured to compliment them. Lately, larger 1/16 scale figures from several manufactures have entered the market and offer an alternative to resin and metal. Plastic figures are easy to assemble and modify, but the detail tends to be poorly defined and compromised by mold lines. Plastic tends to shrink slightly as it cools, and if larger, deeper moldings such as torsos are removed from the mold too soon, pits called "sink holes" can develop as the surface cools faster than the internal plastic. Fortunately, manufacturing techniques have improved tremendously, and most plastic kits have none of these molding problems. |
