Dragon has announced an exciting new series of model kits. Why are they so exciting? Because they appear in the fantastic large scale of 1/6, offering modelers unparalleled detail and realism. The first item in the new range is a Kettenkrad, also known by its more technical name of SdKfz 2 Kleines Kettenkrad HK 101. Originally designed and built by NSU, the unique Kettenkrad was a cross between a motorcycle and a halftrack. Most of these fascinating vehicles saw service on the Eastern Front, where they could handle the mud and snow of that harsh theater. Many were also used by the Luftwaffe as runway tugs for their aircraft in order to conserve aviation fuel.

With a length of only 3 meters, the Kettenkrad was a very compact vehicle. Dragon’s 1/6 scale version is even more compact, but it’s just bulging with realism. There are many advantages in working with this larger scale – for instance, it has individual track links that are workable after assembly is complete. Small parts like the Notek light, taillight, rear tow hook, and sprung seat can all by reproduced in glorious detail. The six-speed gearbox inside the hull is made from a resin casting in order to accurately replicate the complex shape of the original. This 1/6 scale model is just the right size to impress viewers, yet remains compact enough to display on a shelf or desktop. Naturally, the scale also allows the vehicle to be crewed by readily available 1/6 scale figures. This is just the first item in Dragon’s new line of weapons and vehicles, but it sets a very high benchmark in terms of quality and accuracy! Main features include injection-molded hull with molded-on suspension arm details, side fenders and handrail molded in one piece with weld detail, side marker lamps with weld detail, cooling tunnel with sharp bolt detail, blackout taillight recreated with correct detail, crisply detailed workable tracks that are easy to assemble, road wheels and idler wheels with correct detail, correctly represented display gauges, workable driver’s seat with spring suspension, detailed gearbox, front and rear number plates with personalized registration numbers, front fork with weld and bolt detail, front fork springs accurately wound for extra strength, Notek headlight with correct shape and detail, Bosch headlamp realistically reproduced, engine cover with metal mesh, bonus heater and heating lamps with fine detail, 6V battery with crisp detail included as bonus, and injection-molded seat cushions with detail.
