Mythology: The Greek goddess Athena, also called Pallas, was later identified with the Latins’ Minerva. Born out of Zeus’ head, she was the goddess of wisdom, arts and war. She was the protector of the city of Athens and also of the Roman state. She was represented with an aegis and with Medusa’s head on her breast.
