The Chasseurs d’Afrique were a light cavalry corps in the French Armée
d’Afrique recruited from French volunteers and settlers in North Africa
doing their military service. As such they were the mounted equivalent of
the French Zouaves.
They fought in all the major wars in which France was involved from their
inception in the 1830’s until disbanded in the early 1960’s."
